Hump Day
lj-music: ChickPop Radio
It's funny how thoughts, images and ideas dance around in your head and poof just like that vanish into the air. Walking into work, humming a song, brilliant idea enters my head. Score a mental note to add it to this thing. So now it's going on noon and the notion is now dust. Something to do with people, porn and other bits of blissful integrety. Strange don't you think how some of us want credit and glory and others just look for well just look. Observe things around you and who knows what you will gain from it. Scary how you can distance your self from things and yet be able to work with things all the same. Focus, concentration, centering your self on one idea and going with it. The idea of multi tasking is inheretintly flawed. Sorry can't spell today. Back to the flaw... think about when you create something with your heart, soul and mind you have put everything into that one moment. You weren't playing guitar, baking brownies and splitting atoms while you banged out the perfect story or painting now did you. Rather you set about a task and did it. Did it well too didn't you. Anyway ignore minor flaws of people take them for what they are and enjoy the good parts of them. Express things not in some neo spirtual waka waka way but through yourself. Give time to those things that matter and feel.

Water Worlds
I want to be part of the no umbrella nation. Talk to the world on my cell phone and feel the coolness of water on my unprotected head. But still, I don't want to get sick and truly do enjoy the gentle sound of the rain hitting then sliding down my nylon protected self. Could it be, should it be so. What makes a person wet and another dry. Is it the deodarant they where or an incredebily cute person strolling by, these are the questions that remain to be asked and answered. Water is a boiling it's time to make tea.

History Junk
Next time we think "Poor Me", consider this.
Next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be...
Here are some facts about the 1500s:
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children - last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it - hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."
Houses had thatched roofs - thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the dogs, cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof -hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could really mess up your nice clean bed - hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt, hence the saying "dirt poor."
The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they kept adding more thresh until when you opened the door it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway - hence, a "thresh hold."
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes the stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while - hence the rhyme, "Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old."
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man "could bring home the bacon."They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat."
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning and death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or "upper crust."
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock them out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up - hence the custom of holding a "wake."
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be "saved by the bell" or was considered a "dead ringer."
And that's the truth ... Who said that History was boring?

Passing Along a Voting Tidbit
Received from a very good friend and thought it worry to pass on:
At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in the year 1787, Alexander Tyler (a Scottish history professor at The University of Edinborough) had this to say about "The Fall of The Athenian Republic" some 2,000 years prior.
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From Bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage"
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the most recent Presidential election:
Population of counties won by:
Gore=127 million
Bush=143 million
Square miles of land won by:
Gore=580,000
Bush=22,427,000
States won by:
Gore=19
Bush=29
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Gore=13.2
Bush=2.1
Professor Olson adds:
"In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare..."
Olson believes the U.S. is now somewhere between the "complacency and "apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy; with some 40 percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake in this Election Year and that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Vote. Four letters that mean so much to some folks but little to others. You have the privledge and honor to do something so simple. Ensure your freedom and the freedom of others. It's the little things that make all the difference. This I truly believe. The little things that later on life you realize aren't that little. There are times when it's easier to just "suck it up" than blast someone to little pieces. This isn't a rant about who is better or if hate is a family value or any of that bumper sticker, look at me look at me brouhaha bs it's simply this. Time is a concept that's all, but in this lifetime with it's standard of time enforcing itself on you, you can work your magic for better - worse - or nothing. Sorry about the punctuation going to hell here but hey . Anyway, smile at someone... greet folks with a gentle good morning. Don't ask how they are just say hey. Who knows but tommorow will come and perhaps I'll be a better person but hopefully I'll just be working on it like everyone else. Get out there and vote. Peace and beauty with you.

Good day today. The sun is finally shining and though the days of winter are approaching you can feel things growing. Seriously. It's as though the grass gave off a mighty sigh. Halloween approaches, such a wonderful time. Beautful when you're a kid, so full of sugar and candy. Truly beautiful when you get older full of chocolate and booze. Ah sweet liqour, the weekend is truly around the corner. Not much to report except I want to get in the habit of working this thing from time to time. Get the writing thing going again. Work on being a bit more happy, perhaps. Looking at the clock it's about time to dash off to lunch. Good to know you have friends... tommorow truly is another day.

Just Thinking
Not really thinking so much as killing time. Looking at stupid icons and thinking man I should write something. Purge the soul. Look deep into the hearts and minds of humanity and go into a deep dark rant. Perhaps wear some underground icon type clothing while doing it yeah that would be great. Mean and full of hate the words would sting with a vengeance. Kind of like drinking really bad bourbon or tequila, that kind of sting. Full of bile and acid. Wouldn't that be neat. I think that book Sock is toying with my mind. Seriously though, it's funny how you find things amusing. Sure you could let all of this stuff piss you off but what's the point. Brush it aside, move on, make a better set of cookies. Fall and Winter, what wonderful seasons... cheap excuses to bake stuff. Think about, crank up the oven and bake some bread and who cares if you warm up the house that's the whole point. Oatmeal cookies are pretty good too.

Rain
Music: The Tech
The world is raining... is hot... humid and all around nasty. Nasty in that
truly disgusting nastiness way, not the fun way. On the plus side got that evil
outlook thing working on the old mac at work. Time to go back and work on the
old smacintosh thing for a while. Funny how people make such a big deal about
this kind of machine and that type of machine. Sometimes I really just want
things to work. Nothing more, nothing else. Simplicity isn't overrated and it
really is more than a sewing pattern. Oh well it's about time to go home... move
some furniture, possibly some bushes. Truth be told I want to sit under a hubba
hubba tree with a cool drink, and a good book. Ah to have the ability to make
the world go far away.... dream little dreamer dream.

Monday Monday
lj-music: Japan A Radio
So begins school for the second way. No longer in school but working at one is still strange just the same. Class starts tommorow night, never thought I'd end up taking a business class but purchasing it is. Purchasing, what a bizarre concept for a class. You figure out how you need to make stuff and how much to sell stuff for, meanwhile make enough to pay your lackeys. Oh well, things start tommorow night so we shall see, at least my brain isn't rotting. On line class is progressing well, at least it's getting me back into healthier habits.
All in all not a bad today. Between the meetings was rain. Not real heavy rain but a pretty cool storm nonetheless. Dark forboding clouds, swirling - death defying little numbers. Storms like that give you hope for humanity. Calming, yet scary those storms make your mind reel. Work is slow but steady, steady enough to keep me busy but still my brain wanders.
I wonder where the summer went and then realize that maybe summer hasn't gone but Fall is simply arriving. With Fall comes talk of Thanksgiving. Already, yes. Family affairs can be an odd beast. Not those kind of affairs silly one but rather relations, no not those kind of relations either. The whole family tree kind of affair thing. It's not that I don't get along with them it's just repeating the same what you've been up to over and over. Kiind of like small talk. Not good at that either. At least where small talk is served there is usual a small amount of liquor there to dampen that blow. So crushing the world can be and yet so sweet. Time to get out of this office, breath in the moisture laden air and sigh. A rich, beautiful, heavy sigh.

Training and Space
go to class. Reaffirm that which you already know. Must keep writing and
enduring all at the same time. Motivation is a tricky thing, it's a lot easier
to drink port and watch cartoons. An odd combination for an odd egg.

Weekend looms in the future
but there is a story locked away in my head. Sit down for a couple of hours and
bang out something. Kind of looking forward to a work and play weekend.
Hopefully it will be more play than work but hey. Jasmine tea has me all revved
up so I'm checking out of here but hopefully will return next week. Silly movies
await and all that jazz.

Monday
Music : Magnetic Fields
Not a bad Monday and all... spent a good majority of it moving around some files
for an unnamed soul but hey the perils of the job. What's a person to do but
help somebody out and keep a good attitude about the thing. This writing class
I'm taking wants us to do the old mind mapping assignment. The take out a big
sheet of paper and do the circles. The weird thing is I truly believe this
method works. Especially useful for getting a story going when your mind has
turned to mush. It's just hard to be creative sometimes. Actually perhaps most
Saw The Corporation over the weekend. Simply it's a great movie and pretty cool
documentary. It's pretty positive and leaving the theater you actually feel as
though the future has some promise. Rode bikes on the Katy Trail and all in all
had quite the mellow weekend.

Stupid Tarot Thing
I am The Hierophant The Hierophant often represents learning with experts or knowledgeable teachers. This card also stands for institutions and their values. The Hierophant is a symbol of the need to conform to rules or fixed situations. His appearance in a reading can show that you are struggling with a force that is not innovative, free-spirited or individual. Groups can be enriching or stifling, depending on circumstances. Sometimes we need to follow a program or embrace tradition, other times, we need to trust ourselves. For a full description of your card and other goodies, please visit LearnTarot.com |

Classes and what not
So the one class is going well. Thought I'd try a freebie as well. Things to tempt the fingers to keep moving, can't be a bad thing. Kind of a lazy day today, feels like rain with a chance for gloom. Really it's just flat out gray and drab outside. I like this kind of weather, make it a little cooler and would be just about perfect. Funny how your clock, watch, time piece seems to drag to almost audible halt when things get to this unfathomable amount of boredom. Serious it's a click, click, click, cha-chunk world and simply put am waiting for lunch. Strange how lunch can be, the sandwich, fruit and what not making up this substantial part of the day, which is gone in all of about fifteen to thirty minutes. Sad almost but quite tasty just the same.
